About
Discover the roots of how Beartrap came about...
The journey of Beartrap starts with the dusting off and rebuilding of old broken monutain bikes in the spring of 2012. Heading to some local woods to ride the rugged, abbandoned off road tracks made by previous riders, some probably dating back over 20 years when off road mountain biking really came about.
All amature riders, we, the founders of Beartrap soon found ourselves loving the fast, rooty, stony, bone rattling tracks that we found in and around our towns woods, but this only made us want more and to push ourselves harder, so with everyone eventually upgrading their bikes to something more suitable to attack the trails, we had obivously found a hidden thrill that we wanted to improve on!
After months and months of checking local woods and contacting local authorites about the possibility of developing some land, we finally got given permission from our local council to develope a decent size woods local to us with some great potential, our love for mountain biking just grew and grew and Grinning Lines was born....
The months passed.. through
hot sticky summers and snow
filled trails in the winter, we
found newareas to ride and
we soon reliased that we
wanted more and that we
wanted to build our own
trails...
The building of berms, jumps
and drop offs soon started,
but we always knew that we
were limited on space..
Most of the woods we had
found either turned to a bog
when it rained or were over run with dog walkers.
What we needed was our own space, something we could make and call our own and something we could put our own stamp and style in to.

The whole time we were riding, learning new skills and looking for new places to ride or possible build our own place, we found ourselves buying more and more mountain bike attire. From T-shirts to pads we all had our own tastes, but we soon realised that all the well known brands, although being nice and having some great designs, there was no real alternative feel to any of them.
This got us thinking... We felt there must be other people like us who are in to sports and would like an alternative feel to a brand. We wanted something that was going to match the kind of lines we was going to be building at our new track, dark, twisted but bold with a real edge to it.
After lots of long discussions and meetings, we decided that if its not out there, then we will make it be out there! This with our new found love of mountain biking, we realised that the brand should in some way reflect an aspect of mountain biking, but keeping within the dark alternative style we were looking for, this is when we came up with Beartrap...
While some who are not sure how exactly "Beartrap" tides in with mountain biking, the lovers of mountain biking and most other forms of bike sports will be able to relate to the slang term of "a beartrap" which is when you are on a bike and the pedal swings round and smashes you in the shin! one of the most painful but most common thing anyone who has ever been on a bike will do!
beartrap 1) v. to slip off a pedal, causing it to slam one in the shin,
when one gets kracked with a pedal.
2) n. the toothlike scars resulting from being beartrapped.
So now we had a name we needed a logo.. something that was going to stand out but at the same time be bold and really give a feel to how we wanted Beartrap to be seen by others.
We wanted something that was relative to the name so we soon decided that bear claws would be a big feature, but we also wanted to keep some the aspects of mountain biking, with the winding lines like on trail.
With all this in mind we got a good friend of Beartrap to draw up some idea's, below you can see a few of the other designs we looked at.
With the realisation of what we had already achieved in putting our heads together to make a brand and
designed our logo we couldnt wait to get our brand out there and in July of 2014 we made our first T-shirt
design. We didnt want all of our hard work be let down by a cheap looking / feeling garment, so after a bit
of research and trials we found what we was looking for and decided that a T-shirt with a simple design
but great quality was a great first step for us and thus the Classic Beartrap T-shirt was created.
Delivered to us in October 2014 with preordereds already in, the Classic Beartrap T-Shirt has been our
best seller to date. With the limited Ed white version also being available we felt it was a great start to the
life of Beartrap and offered a really good insight in to the quality we was going to stick to in anything we
did.

After long discussions as to what the final logo should look like we decided, that the 3 intertwind bear claws gave us what we wanted.
The link of the 3 claws gave feeling of togetherness, the winding lines where the claws join give the feeling of a winding mountain bike trail and the 3 claws togther matching well with our slogon "Style, Strength, Speed"
These are 3 aspects that we feel make our brand stand out especailly as a sports brand, as these are 3 important things to many sports, not just mountain biking.

Now heading in to the middle of 2015 we have just
developed and tested our new range of garments.
From A long sleeve, race-top like breathable top, to
a two tone hoodie, we feel our new line will push
Beartrap out to a wider audience. We have also
started working along side some unsigned artists
and bands from our Local music Venue, using their
music in our videos and sponsoring gigs to raise the
awareness of these great bands and to show that
Beartrap is a brand for fans and that we want to give
back as much as we getting.
For more information on getting your music to us,
you can visit the Lounge, where our music and music
from several of the bands can be played.
Again we would like to thank everyone who has helped make Beartrap what it is so far, without you guys everything would of been a lot harder and we wouldnt be where we are today.
Thank you all. "Martyn, Matt and Tim - Founders of Beartrap"
